5/2 The Lakers hosted the other Eastern Upper Peninsula teams on the Jewel course of the Grand Hotel. For the girls, Peyton Waaso led the team with a 49 followed by 7th graders Ava Sehoyan 61 and Brooke Dziobak 80. The Boys placed 3rd with a score of 226. Low for the boys was Tyler Pereny with 50 followed by Christian Styburski with 54, Trevor Pereny 59 and Leon Sehoyan 63.
5/5 The Lakers traveled to Newberry Country Club and played well on a nice 60 degree day. Peyton Waaso shot 49, Ava Sehoyan 67 & Brooke Dziobak 75. For the boys Tyler Pereny once again led the team with a 51 followed by Christian Styburski with 57, Dominic Morse 63 & Trevor Pereny 68.
4/27 - The Lakers hosted the first match of the season at the Grand Hotel's Jewel course. Peyton Waaso shot 49 for the girls team. Tyler Pereny was low for the boys team shooting a 42. Other scores were Jeremy Hepker with a 44 and Nick Davis at 57.
4/30 - Golf at the Oaks in Kincheloe with temperatures in the 40's saw the Lakers struggle on a hilly and wooded course. Peyton Waaso had a 55. For the boys, Nick Davis had a 71, Jeremy Hepker 57 and Tyler Pereny 53.
5/5 - The Lakers traveled to Naubinway to play at Hiawatha Golf Course. Tyler Pereny tied the school record with a 41 on the course. That record was first set by Michael Gamble. Nick Davis shot 76. Peyton Waaso set a course and also an all time School Record shooting a 43. The previous record was 45 set by Marie Bunker in 2011.
5/18 - The Lakers hosted the boys part of the all-league tournament, second 18 holes, at the Jewel course on Mackinac Island. Tyler Pereny shot 88 to make Second Team all-conference for the EUP conference which we participate in during the spring. The weather was in the 30's and windy.
On the girls side of the all-league tournament at Engadine, Peyton Waaso shot a 94 to set what is believed to be the 18 hole school record and finished 4th overall to make First Team all-conference for the Eastern Upper Peninsula league. The weather in Nabinway was cold, windy with snow flurries throughout the start of play.
At the State Finals the boys played at Irish Oaks Golf Course in Gladstone. Tyler Pereny led the Lakers with a 90, Jeremy Hepker had a 115 and Nick Davis came in with a 172.
The State Finals for the girls were held in Escanaba at the Escanaba Country Club. Peyton Waaso shot 105 for the Lakers to finish in the top 10 at State. This is believed to be the first time a girl from Mackinac Island has finished in the top ten.
Golf was first offered on Mackinac Island Public School in the spring of 2008. Mary Patay has been the golf coach ever since.
