Guided Reading

Fountas and Pinnell/Daily 5 

In 2/3 grade(s) we use the Fountas and Pinnell Reading System.  Fountas and Pinnell is a guided reading program that matches students with their appropriate level of reading based on running records and leveled books.  I incorporated this system into the Daily 5 program by the 2 sisters.  The Daily 5 is a rotational series in which students rotate every 15-20 minutes.  The rotations include Meet with Teacher, Computers, Read to Self, Word Work, and Writing.  Each student is placed in a group based on their needs in reading/writing.  

2nd and 3rd Graders are expected to write in different forms.  We work on informative, narrative, and opinion pieces.  We start from the base up working on correct sentence structures and building up to the correct way to write a paragraph.
